The wood hasn\u2019t been varnished yet. I recently wrote an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popularwoodworking.com\/articleabstract?aid=17671\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popularwoodworking.com\/GeneralMenu\" target=\"_blank\">Popular Woodworking magazine<\/a> detailing techniques for producing this joint. The article, using a small sample, explains step by step how to make the joint, with key differences from traditional teaching that make it easier to make, improve the appearance, and add to the long term stability of the construction.<\/p>\n<p>The photo below\u00a0shows the <strong>dry fit<\/strong> with the excess lengths of the tenons still projecting. The pinch rods were used to check the width of the case; going from front to back it widens just a hair to allow proper drawer fitting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rpwoodwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/img_1297_edited-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-139  aligncenter\" title=\"img_1297_edited-3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rpwoodwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/img_1297_edited-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is a moderately difficult joint to make but the work progresses predictably. Glue up for this piece was tricky but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bowclamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bowclamp<\/a> cauls were very helpful in getting a tight joint line along the full width of the boards.
